Sustainability

Faraway Books is committed to minimising our environmental footprint. We recognise that the production and delivery of books does have an impact on the environment, but have taken steps to reduce this impact as much as possible.
Our subscription business model is less wasteful than the traditional bookstore model. Bookstores normally order more books than they are likely to sell, as they are able to return unsold books to the publisher for a refund. These books are generally then pulped, contributing to a large amount of waste in book production.
At Faraway Books, we only order the books we need for each upcoming mail out to subscribers, resulting in little to no waste.
As a gift to a child, a Faraway Books subscription is a far more environmentally friendly alternative to plastic toys, which are produced with petroleum products and are not biodegradable or recyclable.
Our books are shipped in recycled and recyclable/compostable padded mailers, plastic free and made entirely of paper (unlike most padded mailers on the market). They use a paper “honeycomb” construction to keep their precious book cargo safe.

Our tissue wrapping paper is created from recycled materials and printed with soy-based inks. It is 100% compostable and recyclable.

Our stickers are printed with soy-based ink and are 100% compostable.

We recognise that delivering our books to our happy customers does have an impact on the environment, which is why we only ship with Australia Post, who provide 100% carbon neutral delivery.

We strongly believe that helping to create a generation of young readers will contribute to making the world of tomorrow a better place.

And we are determined not to damage that world.
